Formoso do Araguaia

Formoso do Araguaia is the largest municipality in the area with 13,480 km2. Located in the southwest region of the state, it is 327 km from Palmas. Bird watching, recreational fishing, hiking, river beaches, natural and artificial lakes, indigenous reservations and the largest irrigation project in continuous lands of Latin America make up the ecotourism itinerary of Formoso do Araguaia. The city's name is a tribute to Formoso river, a tributary of Javaé river between the municipality and Ilha do Bananal.
